I've been hearing they are horrible cars. I.E: The electrical system is horrid, and replacement costs are astronomical.
[My brother is a triple major in Automotive Aftermarket/Autmotive Mngmnt, and Finance, and I want to take his advice but I'm apprehensive. ]
Does anyone own a VW New Beetle [1998-2006]? If so, do you like it?Are there any problems?

journeyman vw tech here. other than the beetle being a 'girly car', i wouln't mind owning one. my choice would be an 01-05 jetta w/ a tdi/pd engine.

Two of my girlfriends have owned 2002 or newer basic trim, and they have not had significant issues.

i have a 2002 golf with 70000 miles and no problems at all and i get almost 30 mpg with so yes i think you should by one
