well if u have windows then
go to start
then to Run
then in the space type "msconfig"
a new window will appear with many tabs
then select the last tab which is "Startup"
then remove the tick mark from all the programs which u don't want
to run when the comp is booted
press apply
and restart the computer
and when the comp restarts it will show a long message just
tick in the box and press "OK"
the problem solved
+keep in mind that ur comp needs space to run so if ur hard drive is full then your comp will automatically become slow and some times some programs wont work

OK, take a deep breathe.
Go to Google and type in C Cleaner. This is a program that clean up extra files and has some other features. One of those other feature is the startup up options.
Go to the view that lists all the startup options and delete all the ones that you don't want to startup. I wouldn't start, MSN Messenger, Quicktime, Antivirus, Camera, Limewire, etc. Because it would take at least 7 min for your computer to boot up fully.
Furthermore, the more programs you have running the more slowly your computer will run. If you must run all those programs at once. BUY MORE RAM. $$$$$$$$$$$

If you are running Windows XP, you can Start/Stop programs from running via a command. Instructions
1.Go to 'Run'
2.Type in 'msconfig' (minus the quotations:))
3.The last tab of the Configuration window is "Start Up" , select it.
4. Simply uncheck the programs from the menu, click Apply, it will prompt you to restart.
On the next restart those programs won't launch.
*Note - some programs such as antivirus are set up as system services. You may be able to uncheck them from "Start Up" menu, but they will continue to launch. Hope that helps.

more than likely adware is using computer resources. control alt del buttons and see what resources are being used and by what. also go to the programs to start up, delete any entry not in use everytime you sign on to the computer. They tie up resources as well. It will not disable the program when you open the program it will still be accessed it just will not automatically be resident when you log into computer using up resources until you do decide to open program.
When you open computer resource look at memory usage if you remove all unecessary programs and memory usage is still high might want to consider adding more memory.

You have this stuff on you computer for on reason or another. The easiest way to solve your dilemma is to buy more RAM. If you are a little worried about doing this yourself, you can take your computer to a competent computer repair shop and they should be able to install your new RAM on the spot. That is if they have it in stock. Call them first to see. Good Luck

for most of them you need to open then and go to options or proerties and de-select the start when windows starts option. Do you really need so many - uninstall any you don't use much. Also when you are installing programmes read everything carefully and don't select the system tray option. you can turn off the system tray on most things that you don't need - leave your anti virus in there though.

goto run > msconfig > then choose the startup tab and uncheck almost everything so as not to load anything at startup. then restart your computer when it asks you to.
