Jamestown was settled in 1607 by English travelers. This was where John Smith was famously kidnapped and rescued by Pocahontas. This was in present-day Virginia.

After Jamestown was a success, the Puritans in England asked King James for permission to go to America. That was when they landed at Plymouth Rock.
