My mother-in-law's birthday is this week and I have no idea what to give her for a gift.

A little background info:

*She can't get out much anymore. Pretty much she stays home alone. (We all visit when we can)

*She lives in a very small, somewhat cluttered apartment, so there's not room for much more stuff

*She already has TONS of pictures of the grandkids.

*She's not into new technology. She does have a CD player and a VCR, but I doubt that she could deal with anything more high-tech than that.

*She likes to bake, but she has diabetes so she doesn't do it too much anymore. (I gave her a cookbook for diabetics last year)

*She likes jigsaw puzzles, but we've given her those before... many times! She also likes playing cards when she gets the chance.

Any suggestions?

Handkerchiefs and those cute lil' socks with grips on the bottom. My granny is 101 and she still loves them. You can't go wrong with gloves if she complains about cold hands due to her being a diabetic. Happy Birthday to her and many many more!

She probley has everything she needs or wants as well. I would be tempted to either get a DVD/Video of her favorite old movie or make one of the family. How about taking her out somewhere instead of a present, supper or a community event,if she has a hard time getting out his extra effort may mean a lot to her. Anouther idea that my 82 year old grandmother loves is to make a donation to a charity or food bank in her name!
Good Luck and I'm sure she'll appreciate what ever you come up with.

For the last couple of years, I have been putting money on my mom's electric bill. Instead of getting her something that she probably doesn't need, I pay her electric bill and then she has money freed up for whatever she might want to do!

hmmm, i dont know if this helps but my grandmother just recently got really interested in crafts. i bought her a few "do-it-yourself" books from a local craft store and a few supplies. also, in bookstores there are some great craft books for any age and style. hope this helps, good luck!
