This occurred for the first time today. It is of concern because it seems to drain the battery. I pulled out the ignition fuse and this still occurs. Any thoughts?

The ignition cylinder is wearing out and is causing the "pin" that touches the sensor to touch all or most of the time. It sounds like you need a new ignition cylinder. Or you could just disconect the chime.

yeah, it's the 16 year old domestic warning sensor going off, seriously though it sounds like the ignition switch is getting weak, replacing it is an expensive chore, is it worth it ?

Sounds like it could be a shortage in electrical system
