No your check engine light comes usually comes on when there is an emissions system failure or something that can cause emissions to go out of wack. Cylinder misfire, ad O2 sensor, EGR system are just a few examples that can cause a check engine light.

A water pump will not set a check engine light. Now if it gets bad enough that the vehicle overheats and cracks the head then yes it can set a DTC.

NO! Depending on your make and model, the CHECK ENGINE light either means a fuel problem, or it's time for a standard service, like a 10,000 mile checkup.

It has nothing to do with your water pump, sorry.

No! There is no sensor that monitors water pump operation. It's only indications of failure is noise, coolant leaks, and overheating.

For consumers it is wise to change the water pump on a routine basis to avoid a tragedy.

Watch your temperature gauge. Pop the hood and listen, you will hear if your pump is bad. When a water pump is going out, it will not take long and you will be stranded.

most likely no it shouldnt. In some odd instances I guess if the car heated up enough it could triger an engine light but I doubt it. If anything the temp guage would come on.

You'd better hope so...it would mean the engine wasn't getting any coolant through the radiator and back to the block. The thermostat should sense the heat rising and let you know by the temperature guage. Next would come a blown hose or head gasket, but by then it's probably too late...

No
To clarify..it isn't going to specifically give you a code for bad water pump, but it might give a code that would indicate that might be something to look at.
