As a guy, and one who went clubbing in the 80s, I was very cynical about Mr Manilow. However, out of boredom and a lack of alternatives, I saw a tv concert of his, and found to my surprise that he is quite a charismatic performer. He is also a song writer who knows his art, and can play the piano, which puts him 10 rungs of the ladder ahead of all the boy bands who have regurgitated his music - Take That & Westlife. Also, rather surprisingly, he and Meat Loaf once covered a track by each other! I think it could be time to reassess Barrys ability, and he should be placed just beneath the Bee Gees as great songwriters of the 1970s.
PS I may have been a new romantic, but am not gay, just a little surprised that Copacabana is so catchy.

Has been topping charts since early 70's with romantic as well as a variety of song styles. Has great stage presence and is
musically versatile. Has decent voice. The nature of his music and
persona appeal to both sexes, but especially to women.
Began playing piano backup for Bette Midler.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Manilow for complete bio, history, discography. and references.

He's harmless, kind of asexual, a pleasant entertainer, and has written some nice melodies that make some people feel nice. Not my cuppa, but that's my best explanation. Clay Aiken may be his successor in a few ways.

This is an easy one! Copacabana. Thats all I have to say. Hehe, That song just does it for me. Barry has such a mellow, happy tone. I love him, his music is just a 'feel good' type of music. GIves off a great vibe.

Pleasant voice, good songs, pleasing personality. He is in no way a macho guy; more like a good friend type of guy. He sings how they feel.
