The purse snatching wasn't the only trouble for those on White House detail recently:

· Two Honolulu motorcycle police crashed while in the presidential motorcade Tuesday. A 30-year-old officer was in serious condition

· Three men mugged the acting director of the president's travel office as he walked down a Honolulu street early Tuesday.

· Mechanical problems grounded Air Force One in Vietnam Sunday. 6 tires blew out on landing.

· A Secret Service agent on advance detail for the first daughters in Argentina was beaten in an off-duty altercation.

Bush Administration is totally confused after losing the election to Democrats. Confusion sometimes is contagious. I guess it has transmitted to the employees from the government. People need to elect a better administration.

Actually there is a process where the Office of Management and Budget Personnel forces all non military and civilian military agencies to compete for thier jobs against commercial entities. It's called the OMB A-76 and Most Efficient Organization (MEO) Process.

Hiring them isn't the problem. I am a former (note former) Federal Employee who found the majority of Federal Employees were far too comfortable in the knowledge it was nigh impossble to get fired. They have a far better benefits package than the average American and have almost all but forgotten they are Civil Servants in place to help the general public. My thought is that we could eliminate most of the GS-4 thru GS-8 positions by turning them into Intern positions for Grad and Post Doctoral fellowes OR if the draft is reinstated, ensure those who can't pass the physical for the draft are placed into the lower paying Government jobs.

I say we give the managers more leeway in job training, HR management and ease of termination. This will increase the quality of work just like performance goals at a civilian job ensure most employees do a good job.

FYI for those blaming the Bush admin; the Government Employee is on average a card carrying Bureaucrat Democrat heavily involved in their union activities. The US Government employee union is one of the strongest in the country. And it is very, very liberal. The elected administration inherits them just like you might inherit the mangy dog when your old uncle passes on. Nothing you can do with it except feed it or put it to sleep.
