Tryptophan!

It's an essential amino acid with a with a sleep inducing effect. There's also Niacin, which gives you a sort of slight sedative effect (calming).

Eating turkey on an empty belly is the way to end up the most sleepy!

Tryptophan, which is an amino acid, is thought to be the cause of Turkey-sleepiness. It is a precurser to the neurotransmitter, seratonin, which causes a calm, relaxed feeling. However, if you want to know the truth. . .that's all a myth. In order for typtophan to work, it has to be taken on an empty stomach. So,the most likely reason people get sleepy after Thanksgiving is because they ate so much!!
