Are the rest of the outlets on that circuit working? Usually there is more than one outlet on a circuit. If they are its not the breaker. Check all the outlets on the line, the short may not be in the outlet you are looking at. If you replaced the receptacle, the short is further up the line and you will need a professional.

Turn off the circuit breaker and check the other outlets that are dead for a bad connection on the back. Some times the connections chorrode or the stab lock springs go bad. Most outlets are jump points to the next outlet.

Some brands of breakers do not trip to center position. Try to toggle off/on all the breakers in the panel. It may also be a GFCI receptacle as stated previously or a loose/broken wire in an upstream device.
