Well, everyone native to Santa Fe insists the La Llorona story began right here in town, though everyone says that story began in their own town all the way to Venezuela so that's not really a local myth strictly.

Supposedly the ghosts of Atom bomb victims hang out in an alleyway near the Santa Fe Plaza, because the Manhattan Project used a dummy mailing address there and so that's where vengeful ghosts think they need to go.

There's also supposed to be a ghost of a cigar-smoking nun called Sister George who hangs around near Loretto chapel.

It is rumored that ghosts protect an old cemetery here. Back in the 70's 3 kids vandalized all of the headstones, the newest one was form the mid 1800's, and all 3 died before they graduated high school in various accidents.

I live in Long Beach, CA. We experienced the true story of the mummy found inside a funhouse dummy. It's become a nationwide urban legend, but here's where it started. And it is true.
