I have not had a period in almost a year. I went to my doc and ruled out my thyroid as a problem. What else could possibly be the problem?

You may not be ovulating, Did your Dr. recommend birth control to help you regulate? It is unhealthy for woman to not have a period. You didn't say how old you were, but if you just started into puberty this is normal for the most part. However if you are in your teenage years or older you may need to switch doctors if he is not being aggressive enough with your condition. Ask your doctor about PCOS, this could also be another reason. (it was for me and no it's not an std) There could be all kinds of reasons for not having a period, but if your Dr is not paying attention to you then you need to find another doctor. Best of luck.

being underweight can just as easily be the problem. Many gymnasts stop getting periods because they do not have enough fat on their body. Mother nature therefore decides they are not candidates for childbearing since they don't have the body fat to sustain a pregnancy/nursing. But periods return when sufficient weight is re-gained.

Are you overweight? This can throw off your hormone levels - many overweight women do not have periods regularly.
