Now that Sacha Baron Cohen has unleashed Borat upon the entire world (??) by making it into a film, how can the program still work? That's the whole point - That people believe he is a journalist from Kazakhstan. Has Sacha Baron Cohen effectively killed Borat?

There will always be people, such as politicians, that will not know who Borat is. They will not watch the movie and probably have never seen the Ali G. show either. I'm sure people such as these probably DID see Borat mentioned in the news, but brush it off and forget it because it does not interest them.
So I believe that in the entertainment industry, yes, Borat probably will be no more. At least when it comes down to him interviewing someone that doesn't know him.
He still has a good chance of getting some good interviews with some ignorant poloticians.
I hope he sticks around!

G'day Bellatrix L,

Thank you for your question.

The same thing happened with Ali G. People realised he wasn't serious so Sacha Baron Cohen will have to decide where to take the character next. He won't have the same element of surprise any more.

However, comedians love to retain popular characters. Barry Humphries has been playing Dame Edna Everage for 50 years now.

Regards

I think that everyone pretty much understood it was a joke and he was an actor from the start. Even then I believe it's possible for such a status of "Borat" to still exist if the movie is treated like a documentary which I understand was kind of their intention (joke documentary). It really hasn't changed, the movie was just an extension.
