if you've played other sports before, such as golf, baseball, you'll notice that the swinging motions are the same. if you are comfortable with these sports, your tennis swing should come naturally. Footwork is also a main part of the game. As long as you have good footwork, can move across the court quickly, it should give you an easier time making the team. Anyone can play tennis with some dignity if they have a decent swing and footwork.

I actually have a USTA match at 6pm PST. Make sure you eat a good lunch and maybe a mini meal 2 hours before your match. Stay hydrated of course and just relax. If you aren't at work, maybe watch some pro tennis. I always feel like I hit better after watching some good tennis form. I think its a subconscious thing. Snack on some bananas, and remember to have fun, win or lose. Good luck! Unless you're my opponent, that is. =)

Since tennis is such a cardiovascular activity-- running, jogging, and calastetics would be a good idea before you start training. Remember, always, ALWAYS stretch for at least 15 minutes before you do anything-- otherwise, no tennis for you.

First, you made the right decision to take tennis lessons. Those who decide to learn on their own often end up developing bad habits and by the time they realize that they need lessons, its will take them longer to learn.

Make sure your getting lessons from a good trainer. Note that good tennis players are not necessarily good trainers. Ask for references. Check out his/her students. Watch him teach, does he communicate well, does he have patience, does he really teach or does he just hit balls with you?

the first thing i would do is get a tan if you have a tan line like i did, it was sooo sad
second, every tennis player that looks like they know what they are doing, stop them and beg for help, you only benefit from practice if they are better than you
third run like hell and find a good pair of shoes that wont wear out court is like sandpaper and switching your shoes is almost as bad as switching your raquet. or at least it was for me
last stop caring what people say about you, on the team the ranks are so competative, its worse than the matches for the first few weeks. the familyness comes later Trust me, they will do anything to break you emotionally
Good luck, i hope your year was a good as my first one!

You can get fit for tennis and improve your footwork, that will improve your balance and get you to balls easier, because playing with bad technique is bad, but playing with bad technique and stretching for balls and being of balance make it 10 times worse!
