A little more detail would have gone a long way towards extracting more focused answers, but here are some educated guesses as to what you are looking for.
Am I for them?
Yes, right from their pagan origins they have brightened a dark time of year
When should they go up?
Never before thanksgiving, preferably about two weeks before the big day
Are they a bit naff?
They absoloutely can be, but done right they are awesome.
How's that?

We put them up at the same time as the advent calendar goes up - it seems pointless having that part without all the rest, we take them down just after boxing day. I think the tradition is up 12 before and down on the twelfth night (hence the 12 days of christmas)

If you mean when to put them up then, the middle of December is when I put my decorations up. Too early and I`d get fed up with them.

We put ours up on Dec 1st and take them down Jan 2nd.

now im only 13 but , go for it if you have kids theyll love helping or at least i know that my little sister and i do and not that in pregnant i cant wait to share that bond with my little one when she gets older
