The Astoria has a pretty stringent door policy and yes, you would be turned away without ID which they frequently check. The doorstaff are licensed by Westminster Council and fully apply door policies as well as health and safety rules to protect not just the punters but also the club's licence. While this can be a real bummer if you're underage and want a night out, it does mean that when you do eventually get in you know that you're being looked after, which sadly isn't true of a lot of venues!

They are quite fussy there, and seem to sniff out fear.
With the new stricter government regulations, if a doorman asks, and you don't have, they will 99.9% of the time turn you away. But that is with any club trying to avoid the latest bouts of penalties to be inflicted apon them.
If you don't have any ID, here's some tips, don't overdress, don't arrive too early, don't look nervous- smile and chat with your friends in the queue, and a trick I learnt clubbing at 15: when you're allowed through, don't look them straight in the eye, but don't avert your gaze either. Unless they're under strict orders to ID everyone (in which case you'll see before you get to the front) they decide whether to ID you in that split second you start to step through the door. Timing is crucial....
Goodluck.
