Written byJames Matthew Barrie was born in Kiriemuir in 1860. He got his start as a writer for the Nottingham Journal after graduating from Edimburgh University. He wrote several plays, such as Ibsens' Ghost (1891), The Little Minister (1897), The Admirable Chrichton (1902), caricature of social hierarchies, and his most memorable work, Peter Pan or the boy who would never grow up, in 1904, recalling children's imagination.
Barrie's home was very close to Kensington Gardens (London) and it was there that he first met the Llewellyn Davies boys - George, Jack and Peter, to whom he would tell stories. One of these stories was about the youngest boy, Peter, who would one day fly away to Kensington Gardens so that he might be a boy forever. When children died, Peter would take them on a journey to a place called Never Never Land. When George heard the story, he said that "dying must be an awfully big adventure!". Barrie wrote the words down. They would later became the most famous words spoken in Peter Pan.

Barrie was given the Freedom of the City of Edimburgh in 1929.

Peter Pan is a classic tale that has been enjoyed by many generations since its original publication. The story explains how Wendy Darling and her two younger brothers John and Michael happened to undergo many adventures in Never Land, a far away world with fairies, pirates and mermaids. While Wendy was reading some fantastic tales to her brothers, peter Pan appeared looking for his lost shadow. He convinced the children to go away with him to Never Land and join his tribe of Lost Boys who never grow up. There they also find the evil Captain James Cook, the fantastic fairy Tinker Bell and wonderful places, like the Lost Boys' Hideout, the Mermaid's Lagoon or the treacherous Skull Rock.

I hope the above is usefull.

James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) was a playwright and novelist whose best known play was Peter Pan, which was first presented in 1904.

In 1894 he married the actress Mary Ansell. The marriage was childless and ended in divorce in 1909. However, he was friends with Arthur and Sylvia Llewellyn Davies, and when they died, became the legal guardian to their five sons: Peter, John, Michael, Nicholas and Arthur.

Because he wanted his creation to benefit youngsters as much as possible, Barrie donated his rights to 'Peter Pan' to a London children's hospital.
