My friend were discussing the pros and cons of this restaurant that charges a $$ amount for not eating ALL the food on your plate from the BUFFET. He was saying they should NOT do it; I said they SHOULD. What is your viewpoint?

No they shouldn't do it. A buffet is somewhere you can get as much food as you like and pay ONE price for it. Yes it maybe wasteful, but the restaurant shouldn't be acting as your mother making sure you "ate all your peas".

Hey Doc,
Yes I think they should charge. If its a buffet and you went for seconds or third and don't finish its not there fault it yours. Don't pack your plate with so much food, just get what you know your going to eat.
Usually in Buffets you pay before eating, don't you? Anyway this is what I think.

no they shouldn't do it. first of all how do they determine how much to charge or do they have one set price. another thing if its a all you can eat buffet you've already paid for your food eaten or not and last but not least if you pay for the food not eaten what do they do with the food. I hope they don't put it back on the line and if they through it away what was the point of charging in the first place

Well, I definitely think you should not. When I am at a buffet, I am an optimist and expect the food to taste good, but unfortunately, I am often disappointed in the quality. If a restaraunt is serving food not up to my standards, I am definitely not going to be paying for the food I didn't think was good enough to eat.

No, because the purpouse of a buffet is for a person to eat all they can till they can't no more. That's why buffets have a set price before the buffet.

Right.
The restaurant could sell that food that you didn't eat.

Wrong.
It's your food. You don't have to pay extra for not eating what you ordered in the first place.

It doesn't matter.
Go to another restaurant.

Sounds like the place is in financial trouble. Makes me wonder what other creative cost-saving ideas are going on in the kitchen.

Find another place to eat.

I say they're right to do it if it's reasonable, e.g. charging for wasted food 100 grams and above. It's unreasonable if they charge for, say, a single lettuce leaf that you left behind.

I think they should because there are people in 3rd world countries dead from starvation and would love that meat that they are throwing away
