No way you're too old. I'm in my 3rd (out of 4) semester of nursing school and am 38 and am not the oldest in my class. Started taking the prerequisites at age 35. Nursing school itself is HARD though. It takes a special kind of thinking and it is NOT like regular classes. I had almost all A's in my other classes and then could barely pass my first semester of RN school. Get some support, as in someone who's recently been through it and make sure you have home support.
We go to school and clinicals and do homework that is easily equivalent to a 40 hr/week job+, yet only get 10 credit hours for school. That make sense and give you some perspective? Pretty hard to do with high family needs and another full time job, etc.
Yes, you might even be a better nurse with an ASN. I do my clinicals from a community college at the same place the students from a lg. university do theirs. Believe me, I'm more mature, more ready, more responsible, and have a way better attitude because I've had the benefit of more years of life and have had to work to get here. Good luck to you.

I was over 35 when I graduated from the community college program in my area. I had an easier time getting hired because of the program I went to, which was known for developing quality bedside nurses. Being the schools ability to remain certified with the state includes what percent of their students pass the RN test, they work very hard at getting their students through it.
Besides, as young as you are, it may work out that your employer will pay for you to go to a bridge program and upgrade your associates to bachelors degree.

you're not too old and yes, they will prepare you as long as you prepare yourself. the only thing is that the RN program from a CC is much more competitive to get into...in some, from what i have heard, they do a lottery system...but regardless, you will be in the same level as a RN with a Bachelors degree. except that the one w/ a BSN can do more administrative work. good luck!

Good Heavens woman! No your not too old to go back to school and I don't care if you were 128. My mom went to nursing school when she 45 and she went to a community college and passed her exams with flying colors. Weather you go to a community or a university they still have to teach you the appropriate information to meet state requirements for passing your licensing exam. GO FOR IT, WhAT IN HEAVENS NAME ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine went to medical school at 25 and is now a doctor. I recently began looking into nursing programs as a change of career option. I am 34. Go for it. It is never to late to live your dreams.
