What is the best video game ever?

This dates me incredibly, but I think the best video games were the classics, like:

1. Archon
2. Space Wars
3. Master of Orion
4. Tank (sometimes called Combat)

If you can get a hold of an old Atari 800 series computer, or the NES (first Nintendo game system), you can get Archon for those. Awesome game. It's like chess, but instead of a piece taking another because it lands on that square, the two pieces are placed into an arena in a fight to the death that is controlled by the 2 players. There's a lot of strategy involved in instigating combat at the right time and place. Each piece has it's strengths and weaknesses in battle, and part of the strategy is choosing the right pieces to go into combat with.

Space Wars was an old arcade game. Two ships fight it out in a universe that you could set up with certain physical properties. The ships looked similar to asteroids type ships.

Master of Orion was a great DOS based game where you tried to grow your space empire against other alien races, while exploring, managing industries, and developing or stealing advanced technologies. Master of Orion 2 was a good sequel and fairly similar, and is available on Windows.

Tank was simply the old Atari tank game where two tanks mixed it up in a maze shooting the heck out of each other. Great fun!

Games of the last 5 years really let me down. They all focus more on graphics and fast action, and less on good game play. Rather than spending days working through a game, I'd rather just shoot it out with my buddy for an hour or so.

Lol for him it might be. It depends on your opion. For me i think the classics are the best. I ahve like 4 favorite. I liek mroe than thta but i have 4 that would be in the catergory for best video games:

1st- Zelda ocrina of time for N64 (almost most of the Zelda games excpt for the ones by phlip that nintendo didnt take part in and number 2 too the orgina zelda game.)

2nd- Donket Kong for the Arcade and NES.

3rd- yea Final Fantsy 7

4th- Maga Man series.

oh and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for SNES.
