I've wondered about this for a long time. No one in my family is a smoker, but my really cool guy cousins like to gather around (sort of a manly bonding time) and smoke cigars on the holidays. They also have a light beer or two. But that's irrelevant to my question.
I have always wondered if cigars or cigarrettes are worse for your body altogether, because my dad said it'd be okay if I got to smoke a cigar this holiday, (they smell really good.) I'm also considering buying a pack when I'm 21, and maybe using one every month or so. I never want it to be a regular, daily habit, but I also don't want to die from like lung cancer because of a smoke every month or two. Honest, gentle answers, please!

Are Cigars Worse Than Cigarettes

I am a casual pipe smoker and have looked into this before. Since most cigar and pipe smokers do not inhale and smoke much less frequently, then cigarettes are generally considered worse. However, there is far more tobacco, tar, and other nasty stuff inside of a cigar--I mean, that's common sense, it's huge! If you smoke you cigars like cigarettes, then it is going to be the absolute worse thing ever. If you don't want to quit, perhaps you should try switching to pipes. Pipe smoking take a while, and isn't something you can do all the time, since it's kind of a hassle (a pleasant hassle, though, I might add). Maybe pipe smoking would slow you down a bit. Either way, you should try and stop inhaling!

You don't inhale the smoke from a cigar. You can, but you'll cough really bad, as there is no filter. So the healthy risks are reduced than a cigarette.

But the bad effects like stinky breath, stained teeth, all remain.

Smoking isn't good, regardless of whether it is a cigar or cigarette. There are health risks for both. Even smoking them rarely isn't good. Its not worth it, but do what u must.

Both. Cigarettes have a tendency to give you both throat and lung disease, while cigars are mostly throat-and-mouth things. Neither one shoul be used as a substitute for the other.

I believe both are equally bad for you, although I believe their effects manifest differently. I lost my mom in March at age 68 to squamous-cell lung cancer, pneumonia, and peripheral arterial disease. (She smoked cigarettes from 1955 [probably] to 1983 [definitely].) The American Cancer Society said that squamous-cell lung cancer was a "smoker's cancer." Kaiser didn't seem to blame the cancer on the smoking(!?), but they definitely blamed the peripheral arterial disease on the smoking; and the peripheral arterial disease is why they advised us to take her off the respirator and let her go.

Granddad (my dad's father) smoked cigars. He passed away of testicular cancer in 1996 at the age of 90.

My mom's father smoked a pipe. He passed away of lip and tongue cancer when Mom was 10. If I describe treatment for lip and tongue cancer as of 1947, that would take this way out of the realm of a gentle answer. Yikes!

well i think cigaretes are worse, but also if you want to make it a social thing a cigar would be better because one it smells good and two your not inhailing it. just puff and have a great time with the family (it's a tradition with my family too)!

I would guess that cigars are worse. Cigs have a filter on them which block out some toxins. Don't start smoking. It is a terrible habit to try to break if you get hooked. It can cause cancer and other diseases. Keep yourself healthy and never start. You and your future kids will be so happy if you never start.
