I'm 28, single, no kids, low income, no debt.
I have some dental problems that need attention (I'm not in too much pain) but I also want to start saving to buy a house.
My preference is the house. Is that unwise?

No pain today could equal lots of expensive dental bills tomorrow. It would be wisest to get your dental situation fixed now rather than later for two reasons:
1) Minimal dental work now will cost less than major dental work in the future
2) You avoid dental work, buy your house and then end up being forced to have your dental work done due to the problem having gotten massivly worse...and receiving a bill that you can't possibly afford because all your money is tied up into the house...then you go on a payment plan with the dentist and end up burdenning yourself with another monthly payment. Maybe the dental issue will have gotten so bad that they have to pull teeth but since you have mortgage, insurance, car ins., maybe a credit card or two by then, you have no money to pay for a bridge, crown or replacement.
You can guarantee houses will always be there in two years, but you can't guarantee your teeth will.

A house is the safest investment. But personal hygiene is important as well. If you fix those dental issues, make you sure you take care of that investment. If not, buying a sports car would be a better investment that spending it on dental care you do not maintain.

Fix your choppers first. If you are ignoring expensive dental work now, down the road you may be in for a huge surprise costing more and being more painful. Get that over then start the house fund.

Take care of your teeth first and then start packing money away for a house... better yet a townhouse that you would NOT have to do all the maintenance your self, unless you are a super handy person and can handle it all.
Your health should come first for with out it a house means nothing !!
Limit time spent with people who spend too much money that could inhibit your plans on saving !!

U should definitely save to buy a home, but the best way to that would be to invest. Invest in something, stocks can be an option, this can be the best way to build Ur credit and you wont be losing a lot of money.

It's nice to have a house, but with poor dental hygiene, you'll never find a man/woman to enjoy it with! Especially with teeth in a jar in your lovely new home.
