…………..lower the prestige of the United States in every country of the world by his unilateral conduct of foreign policy and puerile "you're either with us or against us" rhetoric?

Because a large part of the neo-conservative philosophy is nationalism. Nationalism is by definition, arrogant, it is a belief that 'WE' are right, and everyone who does not believe that is either irrelevant or our enemy.

If you don't believe me, listen to some of John Bolton's speeches. Bolton is Bush's appointee to the United Nations. He has said, "The UN is relevant only when it helps us" and "You could blow up the top floors of the UN and no one would care".

Edit - Anyone who says that the rest of the world hated the USA before George W was president is either lying or an idiot. George H. W. Bush and Clinton both spent much of their presidencies on foreign relations and most of the world were with us in the fight against terrorism. Then, when 9/11 happened, we were sent aid and well wishes from all over the world, the world was with us, they would have done almost anything to help us. When we invaded Afghanistan to get Bin Laden the world were with us again.

But, then Bush decided to go after Iraq even though the evidence for the war was weak. The UN voted against the war. The only supporters we had for the war were countries the administration gave money/aid to. We went to war without any concern for the truth or the rest of the world. Then Abu Gareb. Then picking a fight with Iran. And so on. W is the reason we are less safe now than we have ever been.

The rest of the world loved President Carter they even gave him a noble peace prize and what a wimp he was. I think that should help you understand why they don't like Bush. A recent poll of Europeans shows a overwhelming majority wished that America was weaker. In life you will find basically 2 type of people, those that would try to copy someone's success or those that would try to pull you down to their level, most of Europe is the latter.

Well, I disagree that our prestige has been lowered at all.

His foreign policy has not been unilateral in the least, and while it sounds simplistic, the truth is there really is no neutrality in a war against jihadist Islam. The jihadists don't respect neutrality.

1. They already hated us.. Have you ever been anywhere in the world pre 9/11??

2. With us or against us - is right..you're either going to be a trading partner or you're going to be a supplier to people like hezzbollah..that's what he meant.. He meant the free world against those that want to take your freedoms away from your world..

over your head, I know..but hey..surfs up and there's a sale at trader joes .

President Bush did not cause anybody to hate us. All he did was force their true feelings out into the open.

Arrogance. Plain, and simple. He had control of the House, and Senate. He felt that he could do whatever he wanted, and he was right. The American electorate felt differently...
