When my wife and I were a young married couple I was in the Navy. We decided to go to Disney since we lived relatively close and had never been. So we scraped together what we thought we made need and off we went on a shoestring. Keep in mind this was before internet and computers were widely available. We got there and discovered how expensive it really was but we were going believing we will probably never be able to return. While I stood in line trying to figure out how much to save for gas, what we could spend on food etc my wife had been approached by an elderly couple. She pulled me out of line and said they had given her tickets for no reason. That made the whole trip. Since then we have returned many times over the years and pass it forward. we get tickets, pick up the tab for a meal and even paid for a hotel when one family lost their money.

Oh yes, and it always seems to happen more around the holidays, doesn't it? I do try to keep it up all year though as much as possible. Yesterday I gave a crisp 5 dollar bill to a homeless guy in Chattanooga, TN; holding up a sign at the corner of a ramp where I was turning my big truck. In my home town in WI I don't see too many homeless. Yeah, I know some are drunks or druggies. I trust I gave the money in good faith, what they do afterwards is up the the gods. Charity comes from the heart. I give litter and cat food to the humane society and feel no need to "claim" it on my taxes. On the road as a trucker, we all try to help each other when broke down or just trying to slide the wheels on the trailer. I have helped, and been helped with this. One guy I last helped spoke broken English, but said that he had been trying to slide the wheels for over 45 minutes before I pulled up to help him. Others never bothered. I am not supposed to take on hitchhikers and consider it dangerous, but I have been known to help out one woman and children to the nearest safe place (the scale with plenty of cops) and brought a young man back to Chicago from Ohio when stranded by his cookie company. This was before cell phones were mainstream. It makes me feel good to help out someone in need. I also like making gifts, for people's birthdays and around Christmas and give them anonomously. I also make necklaces with glass beads and give them to the waitresses with their tip. I seldom see their faces when they pick it up but a couple of times I have noticed their confusion then wonder then delight. Makes my day.

Yes, I was on my commuter train and it was very cold outside. I young man of about 15 or so was on his cell phone trying to get his parents and a friend to pick him up from the train station. He had no luck. He asked me for cab fare and rather than giving him the money; I offered him a ride home. It wasn't that far out of the way, but at least he didn't have to wait outside in the cold. He was really appreciative which made me happy, not cause I like to receieve thanks; but because I was happy that I was able to do something to make him happy.

Yes, thank you, I've done both. It's a very great feeling to help someone one and to have something done for you. I've had people offer to help me change a tire, to help me get up off of the floor (I have arthritis) and those who just smile and say Hi. I've tied shoes for both children and the elderly, I've changed someone's tire, I've held open doors and been kind. Sometimes just being kind is a random act in its own right. Blessings.

Yes I have I was at the store shopping I was .50 cents short and the cashier was obviously not budging can't blame her its her job. The guy behind me offered the .50 cents and he was genuinely being kind. I declined he insisted. It made my heart warm to think mankind is not all ignorant and cruel we still have hope when we run into someone who shows we can be civil and caring.
