Your definatly not a failure! It sounds like the swing is a pacifier to her though. Think of how it was in your belly, you walked around all day ( or at least part) and it was like a swinging motion to your baby. The motion is comforting. Nothing wrong with using a swing, keep it in moderation though. My baby only goes in it while im eatting a meal or preparing it. She loves it though, falls right to sleep in it or at least is content for a while. Congrats on the baby and never feel like a failure for trying to soothe your baby! In response to LOWs comment, please please please dont EVER let your baby cry-it-out, it is an extreamly harsh reality for a baby or even a toddler. You need to do your job as a parent to try to comfort your baby and it sounds as though your doing your best!!

There is nothing wrong with using the swing to soothe the baby. She got used to a swaying motion before she was born. If you want more interaction with her you might try carrying her in a sling. This way you can go out and take walks with her.
You are absolutely NOT a failure as a mother. You have found a tool that works for your baby and are using it. At that age their preferences change frequently so don't be surprised if one day she starts screaming when you put her in the swing. Parenting is a continual learning process and it sounds like you are doing just fine.

wow, I cant believe some of the answers here. your baby is still a newborn!! She isn't ready for lots of social interaction, and she has no conception of defiance or negative behaviour!
She will outgrow the swing. For now, it is soothing to her, so let her be happy. Alternately, swaddle her tightly and swing her in your arms until you get tired. Or you can wear her in a sling.
There is nothing wrong with letting her sit in the swing as much as she wants. My baby loved the swing, and has outgrown it and turned into an incredibly happy and very social toddler.
You're not doing anything wrong and you're NOT a failure!

You are not a failure!!!! Honey children that age still like the motion of the swing. The product was made for contentment to the baby, as you swayed her when she was in your belly.
If you don't want to continue with the swing, try interaction with her before she gets to that point of screaming for the swing. Introduce new objects (bright colors) & other toys, or try reading to her as you rock in a chair maybe.

My kids loved the swing also. I tried not to leave them in there too long... their little hands would get cold. :) I say if she likes the swing, there is nothing wrong with using it in moderation. Obviously, it shouldn't be a babysitter though. You shouldn't feel like a failure as a mother...the marjority of people I know used a swing and got along just fine.

My oldest only wanted to be in the swing...he only like to be held when he was eating (for 7 months). Something you can try is rocking her...the swing is VERY soothing for her. You're a GREAT mother and very lucky for having a happy baby.

I'm pretty sure your daughter will change her preference within the next few months. My daughter used to love the swing at two months and now she hates it. She would much rather be on the floor practicing her crawling skills.

Ditch the swing.... babies need interaction and if she is there alot, she is not interacting.... you can hold her and "swing" her.... she likes the movement like when she was in the womb... but to leave her there for long periods of time, you are perpetuating antisocialism.
