The dream state where you remember your dreams is reached just before you wake up.
You dream on and off all night long but the dream you remember is the last one you have before waking.
Some people have their last "REM" long before they wake so they do not remember them.

I have tons of dreams every night and I remember them too. Mine are like a long movie that plays out in my head every night. Sometimes I'm a spy, sometimes in a train or boat, lately. There are books that have dream meanings if you are interested, just look in Chapters.
I have done some research on this and there are certain chemicals in your brain that cause people to not go into quite as deep of a sleep as normal and I am guessing this is why we may remember our dreams. We don't sleep as deeply as most, so we can easily remember dreams. This research was also linked with fibromyalgia because since we don't reach that deep level of sleep we may not be getting the restorative sleep that is needed to repair damage done to the body over the day. Look at your family history and see if anyone has fibromyalgia or chronic pain disease.
This was a very interesting question, thanks!

EVERYONE dreams every night. As far as if you have an average night sleep. You don't have one either, you have several. So they are having dreams each night, they aren't remembering them.
Usually, not remembering them can be just not taking an effort and trying to remember them, or being too busy in the morning. But boring dreams are also harder to recall than ones full of emotion.
I personally remember 100 to 120 dreams each year. I remember way more on weekends and holidays as I don't have to jump out of bed and rush to get ready for work. I am also likely to get a longer nights sleep those days.

Only that you pay attention to detail!
Perhaps you dream so vividly so it's impossible to forget them.
I also remember most of my dreams, and I think it's because upon waking I immediately try to recall what was just "happening" in my dream. Most people probably awaken to thoughts of their day (what will they wear, what are their priorities for the day), instead of spending a little time chillin in bed enjoying their waking time. Perhaps we just enjoy life a little more, and can take the time to appreciate everything it has to offer!

It means you have a good memory. I read somewhere that when sleeping when you have a dream and you wake up you have to remember the dream within 3 seconds of waking up or you forget it entirely

Remembering your dream is only showing you that your subconscious mind remain in a state that it is trying to tell you something. Most of the time we remember our dreams because there are something deep down we have to get it out. By remembering dreams, basically, you are sending a hidden message to yoruself.

Depends on either your imagination or the importants of what something intelligant has to tell you.
With your imagination, it has to be how much you enjoyed it. Really scary, fun, exiting, the kind of level you'd want to have on your next dreams. Maby even spacifics you want to dream about.
Something intelligant seeming to talk to you? Through pictures or words? These your going to pay attention to. It's either going to be in the future or the next day. That night even. It might even be to help you get over the stumps making things difficult.
