g(x) = ½x + 4
g(a + 1) = ½(a + 1) + 4
= a/2 + ½ + 4
= ½a + 4½

g(x) = 1/2x + 4
g(a+1) = 1/2(a+1) + 4 = 1/2a + 1/2 + 4 = 1/2a + 9/2

okay first you have to put a+1 in as x so

1/2(a+1) + 4

now u have to find what a is

put 1/2(a+1) +4= 0

distrubute 1/2 to a + 1 = 1/2a +1/2

now add 1/2a+1/2 +4

you get 1/2a+ 4 1/2 = 0

minus 4 1/2 from each side

1/2a = -4 1/2

divide each side by 1/2 or time it by 2 (recipercal)

you get a=9 now you put 9 in as a

and you get g(a+1) = 10

hope that helps

a/2+9/2...
Do not confuse with 1/(2x)+4... that would be a disaster!

g(a+1)=1/2(a+1)+4
1/2a+1/2+4
1/2a+4 1/2 or 9/2

g(a + 1) = .5(a + 1) +4 = 0.5a+4.5)
