My laptop will only use AC power, even when the battery is in. It will not charge, AT ALL. Not even when the computer is turned off. Please help!

The battery is not even one year old yet.

One year is short, but these batteries do get lame after a while.
Especially when you have not followed the instruction "...discharge completely, then recharge completely..." when you received this computer. Constantly using battery only for a short time, then using the computer mostly on the charger shortens the battery life.
Another - less likely - reason can be that the "Power Management Circuitry" in your computer is not functioning.
Get a new battery first.

Will the laptop power up w/ the AC adapter removed. It is possible that the battery detection and charge circut is messed.

If you get a battery charging light, it is likely that your battery is depleted and you'll need a new one. If not, it's a circut issue within the computer, good luck w/ Dell on the warranty issue...

I own a dell latitude D600, dell is the worst computer manufacturer ever!!! my battery went out right at a year old, I have the extended warranty but batteries are not covered. I have gone through 5 hard drives 2 motherboards, a keyboard, touch mouse, DVD player and a LCD screen. I will never buy dell again they are horrible products and tech support is a joke, they don't even speak English!!!!
THATS IT I'M DONE (with dell)

Sometimes you just get a flat battery. Batteries life expectancy relies on the quality of the battery, and the use of it. If the battery was kept fully charged its whole life, it would "remember" that state and not discharge. You may have just gotten a bad battery, so contact dell, and see if you can get a new battery.

It could either be the battery itself, the AC adapter or the motherboard. Call Dell and have them troubleshoot. If it is still under warranty, they will fix it for free.
