Are bunnies legal to have in the home? If so, are there places around the south where I could purchase one? Are they expensive?

I live in the USA and its legal to keep rabbits for pets here. They are not expensive depending on what kind of breed you want, there are hundreds of kinds.

For further info I would advise visiting
http://rabbit.org/
That's the House Rabbit Society They provide lots of info on what type of rabbit is right for you and how to care for it in your home. Also they will give you a list of rabbit vets in your area.

Good Luck ! :)

You might want to try a pet store for your pen and feed (you'll pay a good bit for a good sized cage, but a feed store will have a 50 lb sack of rabbit pellets for about three times what the pet store sells a 5 lb bag), but your best bet for a great quality bunny is a county fair (some of these can still be a little pricy), a farmers market, or a flea market (in these last two you can usually find rabbits over 6 weeks old and less than $20.00). They at least will know what breed of rabbit you are getting, how their mannerisms are, and they can even give you good advice on what to do when this or that happens. My experiences with pet stores and bunnies has not been well, if you can tell. The three pet stores in this region can't even tell between a male and a female, and all of their bunnies are mixed breeds. Makes me glad that I breed my own. ;)

Rabbits are legal to have in the home. You can buy rabbits from a pet store, but I would buy one from a rabbit breeder. When you buy from a breeder you know the health of that animal. The American Rabbit breeders association has list of breeders in your area. The price would depend on the breed of rabbit. Good Luck and Enjoy.

Yes, they are legal.
The range in price- depending on the breed.
Any pet store or check for breaders online.

I bought my mother's for $25 per bunny.

I dont think they are too expensive; it all depends on the breed & where you purchase it. Try your local pet shops; however before purchasing from a pet shop make sure you do a bit of research & find out if anyone has any good or bad information on their pets; such as where they get the animals; also check the store out yourself to make sure they are being treated properly. Petsmart & Petco are good if you ask me; personal breeders are good as long as you get a little background information; if that fails try your local animal shelter & you may also check petfinder.com good luck :]

Rabbits live longer, when housed indoors. It is not illegal, but you might want to check with the homeowner (if you are not), to make sure they agree to the idea. Some petstores will sell them, and some rescues will have them.
The price of them can vary. Anywhere from $15 (mixed breed, not fixed) - 99 (purebred & fixed)

I suggest before you get one you go to these websites and read The House Rabbit Handbook. You should also adopt and save a life.

i wouldnt suggest buying it from a pet store because they are normally too young to be separted from their mom and or not the "actual" breed or size they tell u... ur best bet is to look up local rabbit breeders in your area.
