I have no information about what part of Brazil or India you refer to.. Brazil and India are very large countries. Longitude is the imaginary north-south line in the earth called meridians. Every 15 degrees of earth's circumference equals 1 hour. We can take as reference Brasilia in Brazil and New Delhi in India.
The meridian of Greenwich is the base internationally accepted as 0 degrees. This imaginary line passes through Greenwich in the United Kingdom.
The longitude of Brasilia is 47 degrees and 54 minutes W.
The longitude of New Delhi is 77 degrees 13 minutes E.
W and E mean distances in degrees from the meridian of Greenwich. As these are east and west you have to sum them to get the actual difference in longitude between the two cities.The sum = 125 degrees and 7 minutes= 125.117 degrees
Divide that decimal difference by 15 and you get the difference in hours.
Difference =125.117/15 =8.34 hours = 8 hours and 20 minutes.
That is what is called the difference between civil times. For convenience and to have all the watches in a location coincide the actual difference in time is expressed in differences of one hour. So that you have in the US, Atlantic Standard Time and by the same token Eastern, Central, and Pacific Standard Times. .
