To each his/her own. I think it's sad that they feel the need to stereotype themselves, but as to the music- I love punk (70s and 80s stuff, mostly) and I like gothic music (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, etc.) and I hate emo (whiny music, and to all emo artists I have this to say: there are more and bigger problems in the world than your faux suicidal tendencies, so get over yourself and think of someone else for a change). That said, I don't care what people listen to. They're allowed to have their own opinions. I might not agree with them, but I won't hate them just because we have differing tastes in music.
And what the hell is a grebb?

I love My Chemical Romance, but I also listen to Mariah Carey, yet my favourite bands are lostprophets and Blink 182, and then sometimes i'm in the mood to listen to fame, flashdance, high school musical and then maybe sometimes I might stick on a bit of flip n fill or Neo Cortez or maybe a bit of ashanti and Kelly Rowland or Save The Last Dance. So what am I can I ask?
Just because you dress like an Emo or Punk or Chav doesn't mean that that is what you are. I practically live in Trackies and polo shirts with my hair scraped back into a pony tail like a stereotypical chav, but i'm doing a sports degree so thats why. People shouldnt judge a book by its cover, outside of Uni i'm more punk rockish, but when i go out i look like a girly girl.
Don't label yourself an Emo and other people will be less likely to.

Speaking for myself, I don't care what you wear, what music you listen too, or what your farts smell like.
What i can tell you from my friends, they do not not like you for the way you dress or the music you listen to, but they dislike you because you (not you yourself just a general term) try to pass that music as something it is not i.e. hardcore and care more about being cool and appearance as you do of the music, also you tend to know nothing of the history of your music.
Please I respect what you listen to even if in MY OPINION the music is not good, it is only my opinion and you might not like the music I listen to. But when someone says let's say Jessica Simpson is a better singer than Janis Joplin, I will have my loud opinion on that (I didn't use any emo examples so as not to start another debate).
I hope you noticed I tried to give my honest opinion and there is really no better group or better music genre, it's all a matter of opinion and taste,
with that being said please take my advice and I think it's advice that anyone should follow, open the doors wider to music, be open minded and always listen to something new, you might find yourself liking Scotish bagpipes or some crazy South American beat that makes you happy no matter how shite you feel.

Do you know what I hate?
I hate it when people feel the need to be categorised such as emos, gangsters, goths, grungers etc.
Why can't you just be yourself?
If you like listening to my chemical romance - fine go for it!
If you like wearing skinny jeans etc then why not?
but then if you like listening to tupac or something then what's stopping you doing that? If someone says they're 'emo' then it doesn't mean they can't like anything not emo-ey.
I personally love My Chemical Romance (they aren't really emo), I love AFI (emo), I love thursday, I love indie/alt rock like killers, kooks, snow patrol, razorlight etc. I love red hot chillie peppers. I love justin timberlake, usher, T.I., Tupac etc.
Basically, I love any songs that I think are good, that I love to listen, sing and dance to.
I also dress how I want to dress. any clothes that I like I pick up and wear.
I act how I act. I am sometimes moody, depressed, happy, angry, hyper.
In short, I am me.
I don't want to follow fads like emo etc because no one can be labelled as one particular thing. We are all our own person.
I think people that conform to these 'cliques' are quite unhappy with just being themselves and they feel safer being part of a group, being the same as other people.
I personally do not want to be the same as everyone else because I am not. We are all different and unique.
love from me,
xxxxxx

I think they are great and I love the dressing up bit,- its boring if everyone looks the same. I dressed like that 25 years ago and we all used to get the same response as nowadays ( punks etc were alot more outrageous back then) - people just don't understand, so they take the piss as its easy to do. Don't give a shite what others think - thats what its all about - but be a nice person with it and don't take yourself too seriously.

I'm getting bored of these questions. Being a goth, I've answered loads of questions like this on Yahoo Answers, standing up for goths, emos etc, but now i'm wondering why.
Why do we feel the need to ask these questions? You shouldn't feel the need to justify who you are by asking people for their opinions of you, people that don't even know you. There are always going to be people that don't like goths, emos etc, just as there are always going to be people you don't like. But please, just be happy and proud of who you are. So what if some people don't like who you are? Stick your finger up at them and be happy at the fact that you have friends and family who like and LOVE you for who you are. Just another individual with a unique look on life.
Keep smiling and never change who you are.

Emo is a late eighties thing. Look it up. MCR is so-so and a lot of their fans are melodramatic teenagers. Stop with the persecution complex, dear, you live in a free country. You dress as you like and listen to your own music. You could not do so in, say, Teheran.

Woop! Im a scene kid, and personally i couldnt give a fluff what people think. I have pink converse! Haha i get called gay by everybody! I dont care because i know im not. Be who you are! Not what other people want you to be! So many people hate me because i can pull of wearing the sort of things they would look stupid in, i have skinny jeans because im thin, fat people say i look stupid in them because they wish they had thin legs, pretty much everytime someone makes comments on your looks its because theyre jealous, just go with it!
Youre right that people seem to hate alternative youngsters, but if you think about when they were young, they were just as bad, and they had even more outrageous trends!

MCR are very good. i love them. but i would never go to one of their concerts because i know a load of fags will be there. The thing that upsets me about a group of people who all dress the same and call themselves emo is that emo is a type of music. It does not dictate what sort of person you are. I listen to MCR and Alexisonfire and that, but i dont dress in all black or have black hair and makeup! Yes it is your choice, and it looks good on a lot of people. But I think the way Emos dipict themselves is the worst thing. Steriotypically an emo would call me a follower of the trends, Im a sheep.... But then that would be hypocritical. Also anyone who judges anyone for what they look like is a complete bellend. It is peoples actions that makes a person not what they look like.... but then it isnt their music either.
