green bean casserole, as we know it today, became popular when campbells soup was first produced,, they put out and encouraged people to make up, recipes that used their soups in place of cream sauces and other things, and also encouraged the use of soup as something more then to just drink or eat

this was initially introduced in the mid to late 1800's during the stove top famine green beans were put inside of the turkey to replace it. in 1886 when the famine was over many had become attached to the casserole, so it became a side dish!
NO sweat

Marketing (and what those other people said). OMIGOD! Someone who doesn't like the infamous green bean casserole??! Heresy! ;)
(I'll have yours...I love it!)
Here's a tip (use it at Christmas or next TG): use FRESH mushrooms (sauteed) and string beans (boiled or whatever) and combine them w/recipe. Your guests will be stunned at your inventiveness!

I like greenbean casserole once in a while. I also like sweet potatoes-pumpkin pie-mashed potatoes-cranberry sauce-turkey and stuffing. I bet i would not have liked wild turkey because it would have be tough and hard to eat.
