They are both Personal Computers, which confuses people as one is called Mac and one PC. The difference is simply in the OS which is run on each computer. Apple is the Mac and as such runs the Mac OS, and the computers refered to as PCs are Windows based OSs, like Windows XP or Windows 98,me,2000 and soon to come Windows Vista, which will also come in five flavors.

Now, the Mac is the better PC. It is the older one and it has many features which out class the Windows based OS. The Mac does not have a Registry to muck up and make your system slow, it also does not have any need for an Add/Remove program as any program you want to get rid of you just drag the program file to the Trash and it is gone once you empty it. The Mac OS is much safer too, you don't need to run any Securtiy software on it as it just does not have much issues regarding viruses or other malware. Now, the problem with the Mac is that due to how inexpenisve the Windows OS is, Microsoft has virtually diminished its market share. Macs are more expensive due to how strong the OS is and all the goodies which make it such a secure platform. With the arrival of the Windows OS platform, computers suddenly became easy to own as they are much less expensive than the Mac, or at least they use to be. The cost of an Mac and Window based pc is coming closer to the same cost.

With that said, until the Mac become more popular again, due to cost going down, the most used comptuer is the Windows OS, and as such it uses Office software and other software which is widely used around the world and so it is more handy to own a Windows OS than a Mac, for compatibiltiy reasons. It is much easier to send a document or photo, or other material to other Windows users than to a mac user.

My sister owns a Mac and we have to do conversions of our documents, files, music, photos, in order for what she send to me to be run on my Window based pc. It is a hassle for me to do this, as I am not as experianced with conversion as she is, so I prefer the Windows based pc so I don't have to do all the conversions when I want to send things to other people. The difference is especially singular accross the business world as the Windows OS is the most popular due to how inexpensive it is. Most businesses use Windows based OS, due to how cheap they are.

This is a personal choice each person has to make for themselves. There is good and bad in any OS, so base what you purchase on your personal needs. The Apple Mac is becoming less expensive each year and as such will make a come back to a larger portion of the market share.

The Mac OS and the Windows OS are very different and so if you are not familiar with the Mac you will have a learning curve to get past before you are able to use it effeciantly. But, there are a lot of qualities in a Mac which Windows don't have. Some I mentioned above, but there are others as well. Also, there is not as many software programs written for the Mac as the Windows OS due again to how popular the Windows OS has become. With the huge market share Windows has, it is more profitable for programmers to write Windows based OS programs, than for the Mac. Currently the Mac has about five percent of market share and Windows a huge share and Linex a smaller share.

Good luck on making your decision on which OS to buy.

Of course there's a difference. What specifically are you asking? Let me know and I'll provide more specific information.

As far as which is better, I'd have to say Mac OS, by quite a lot. It's a more secure and better-designed operating system than Windows, largely owing to the fact that it's based on BSD Unix. There are no Mac viruses to speak of, and most Mac users don't even run any antivirus software. Installing peripherals is generally nice on Macs too -- everything "just works" -- and the operating system is so stable that crashes are almost nonexistent.

I see that another poster said that it's difficult to exchange files back and forth between Mac OS and Windows computers, but this is simply not true. Most files can be sent either way with no conversion necessary, since applications on both operating systems tend to understand the same file formats.

In addition, Macs are extremely versatile. Current models from Apple can run Mac OS software, Unix software, and Windows software simultaneously. Try doing *that* on a Windows box!

The hardware used in a pc and a Mac is precisely the comparable. So what's the form? nicely, cost for one. a pc with the suitable comparable specifications as an equivalent Mac will value a minimum of a million/3 much less. So, what do you get for the further money? many times macs comprise wonderful monitors. you will get good monitors to apply inclusive of your pc yet they value extra effective than your well-known demonstrate screen. What else do you get on your money? no longer something yet a form of a bite of fruit and the criminal good to apply Mac working structures.

I love my mac. It's not as likely to get viruses and is great for art related things. On the downside, most of the world is PC and compatibility can be an issue depending on what you plan to use your computer for.

essentially, operating systems (how they run) and hard disk formats (what they run on). better performance depends on purpose. if you're just going to use office tools and browse yahoo, you can go with an inexpensive PC. if you want to do graphic design, you might want to obtain a Mac. just remember: Function before Form. :)
