Well, I think I read your question too quickly - I answered based on the idea of "If we could change one thing in the world, what would it be" ... so my answer is listed.
But, if I (myself) could change one thing to better the world - it would be to be a BILLIONAIRE...
... so that I could purchase all the most modern technology that is currently available (from people like Dean Kamen) that would provide clean water to the poor, that would give mobile/robotic wheelchairs to those in need, that would help people build organic structures/housing and educational facilities for those in need while not destroying the environment... etc, etc..

I would like to rid the world of the ugly concept of HATE! I see no reason people can't just except everyone as simply different in their own way. No one needs to hate someone because of their religion, race, financial status, sexual orientation, musical preference or looks. Why do we all need to destroy people and things...it just doesn't make since....
