I think Isabelle Allende is wonderful. My high school-aged daughter is writing a senior essay on Allende and Salman Rushdie and 'magical rialism.

I loved Isabelle Allendes work up until Daughter of Fortune, I'm not sure what changed, if it was her writting or my taste but she just didnt hold me any longer.

I am however really tempted to try Zorro, the only reason I haven't so far is that I dont want to be disappointed by her. Her Eva Luna stories and The House of Spirits were favourites of mine at one time and I dont want them to ever lose their magic simply because her newer stuff no longer enthralls me. I dont want them to be tainted.

(I'm a drama queen, just read over this post but I'm not changing it,love me love my drama!!)

Karma.

I think all of her novels before "Paula" are wonderful. And I loved the book "Paula." But everything after it has been subpar. I guess she was very affected when her daughter died (as to be expected) and I think her writing has gone down hill since.

Loved 'Daughter of Fortune', but was very diappointed in Zorro. It wasn't exactly bad, it just wasn't great.
