Someone just asked who was worse: Stalin or Hitler. Most said Hitler was.

- Stalin killed tens of millions more than Hitler, MILLIONS MORE!!
- Stalin had concentration camps as well
- Stalin suppressed freedom just as much
- Stalin did plan a Jewish killing effort in W. Russia*
- Stalin spread lies and propoganda just like Hitler did
- Stalin brought death to his own people
- Stalin also had plans to spread his ideology world-wide
* during the end of his life Stalin heard of a plot supposedly by Jewsih doctors to assassinate him. He had plans to rid major cities in Russia of Jews or at least suppress them as much as the Nazis did.
But somehow Hitler is worse? Yes Hitler was a scumbag but Stalin was a bigger one! So how was Hitler worse?

BeachBum: Hitler's worse because he targeted a race? So its worse if you kill different races. Why? Are all people not people? Why does race matter when it comes to mass murder?

Good post. Stalin was a terrible man.
And let's not forget Chairman Mao.

It's really hard to call either one worse than the other - both were so evil, so horrible that there really is no difference - let's not forget that Hitler had less time to do it in.
And why forget Mao, whose cultural revolutions and other oppressive measures probably killed more than Stalin did?
Or Pol Pot, whose murder of 2 million Cambodians was about, what, 1/3 of that country's population? That's pretty significant any way you look at it.
To me, once you pass a certain level of evil, there really is no difference.

I certainly won't argue with you on this one, but I don't see the value in which was the worst, since they both were incredibly detestable and murderous, and both came from very abusive homes. And, contrary to what I saw someone say the other day on Answers, Hitler was NOT born in Romania. He was born in Austria, which was an issue with him as he claimed the superiority of the Germanic race. God Bless you.

You are all close but you are confusing TV history not real history.
Hitler killed race specific? Bzzzt wrong. Gypsy's and gays were higher on the extermination list than Jews. Hitler killed 19 million Russians more Russians that the total of all other people.
Of course the Cold War took all Russian pity out of American style history. So we don't know about it.
Stalin was determined to eliminate all opposition; but he comes in 3rd behind Chairman Mao's 53 mil and Hitler.

They were both completely evil and crazy, but their reasoning and who they killed were different...from what I remember about them Stalin killed people based on their opposition to him.. Hitler killed people based on the fact they weren't completely 100% German born and a Christian- with Stalin it was all politics.. with Hitler it was the Master race/ you're comparing them to the mass killings, but their reasoning of killing people were completely different.

Hitler killed people. Stalin killed people.
I stand by my original answer, as well.
Bundy targeted females for assassination.
Manson targeted political enemies.
Take your pick.
EDIT: More importantly and currently relevant, however, is to take notice that world wars make strange bedfellows. Hitler's tragic mistake to invade Russia was probably our best asset in stopping Hitler. It still works.

stalin's feats (if u may excuse my calling them so) were no doubt terrible but must remember that his actions have gained lots of publicity due to his being a communist....hitler was much more than just his concentration camps....u can not judge how evil a man is by statistics!

I'd be willing to bet that most people know more about Hitler and that is why they may say that.
