what you need to do is download GSpot, and after installing it, open the file with GSpot (sounds dirty but I promise you its not, its a codec information applicance) and it will tell you what codecs you need to download. Windows will not be able to play the files without the proper codecs or they will not play propertly.

XviD helps a lot. http://codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm If that doesn't work you need DivX http://codecs.com/download/DivX_MPEG-4_Audio_Compressor.htm
If everything fails, try G-Spot. It detects what codecs you need to install. http://codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm
