All I can remember was that it was two guys, one in a red jumpsuit, one in a blue one. It was a platform game that I used to play in the pub where you had to pay for time, rather than lives. used to cost a fortune! Sorry I can't be more specific!

It does sound like a Double Dragon game. Short of a weird color problem it wouldn't be Super Mario Brothers as that is Red and GREEN. Double Dragon is Red and Blue. Although I didn't play in arcades so don't know how it worked, but I do remember a time limit as well as lives. Ice Climbers used pink and blue but that was snow suits not jump suits. So if it was a fighting kinda thing, not really fighter but you used like karate to hit people and stuff, then I'd say Double Dragon.
Oh and the person who was wondering if they were toads, they were proably thinking of Battle Toads.

It sounds like Double Dragon II: The Revenge. If the jumpsuit was definitely blue then it´s not Super Mario Bros as Luigi wore green.
