Stillbirth happens either because the baby died while still in the uterus or died while being born before ever taking its first breath. It can be detected by ultarsound if the baby has already passed or when mother goes into labor and the fetal heartrate monitor can't pick up the heartbeat. Most of the time the mother feels no movement from the baby and alerts her dr and the baby is found to be dead. It can be caused by many things--cord around the neck and chokes baby, the placenta detatches from the uterus and cuts off oxygen, strep b, infection, etc.

When I ask sensitive questions, I put "Trigger" next to my questions.
I asked another question about stillborns and if women would want to hold their stillborn or not and I said I wouldn't because it's very depressing and I got very negative responses for that.
Anyways, people even doctors don't know why some babies are stillborn. I think of it spiritually and that everything happens for a reason. Maybe a woman who had a stillborn ended up becoming stronger or it helped a family become closer or it helped an insensitive doctor become more sympathetic with his patients, or it helped a materialistic mother appreciate life more and appreciate her family, etc....

Sometimes the baby has died before it's born. It's still termed as stillborn if it's past 22 wks (not considered a miscarriage anymore). There are many reasons that a baby could be stillborn including if the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck or trauma during delivery.

Ok...Dont be alarmed. I had a stillbirth with my third child. His cause of death was undetermined but we are lead to believe that it was the umbilicle cord that wrapped around his neck. Stillbirth is when a child passes before birth and they dont catch it. I carried my son for 34 weeks before he passed away and found out two weeks after the fact. Please dont work yourself up over it though. To answer your question about detection, I carried extra fluid (extra water) and it caused a lot of room to move around which we believed caused the umbilicle cord incident. I hope this helped you and good luck!

Stillborn means that theyhave died in utero. You are delivering a baby that is not living. It happens sometimes...I had a friend whose baby crushed to cord with its elbow inside. They give you pitocin to make you go into labour and you deliver the baby naturally. they usually let you hold and dress the baby before taking it away

I think a still birth is where they dont get oxygen in the uterus and die there. THey are already dead when you deliver them. You dont feel movement and usually will go into labor naturally to shed the baby.
