Is it bad for a Playstation2 to play blue-back disc games?

I heard that the older blue-back disc games are not good for the lens in the PS2. Any truth to this?

It's fine to play the blue disks. The blue disks are simply CDs - that's why they are typically the older games. Most newer games are too big for CDs and require DVDs but some new games (like Lego Starwars) still use CDs.
