Where or how in the U.S could a Travel Agency based in Costa Rica be advertised. What would be the best way to "attract" customers?

I'm not sure if it will give you the exact answer you require, but there's some pretty interesting stuff in the advertising section.

First, what a beautiful country!

If you are an existing agency there are a couple of things I would look at doing in the United States market. First, I would set up an office, in the United States. If that's not possible then I would do this as an alternative. Exposure is everything and separating your agency from the various agencies is critical. Having an on line website dedicated to travel in Costa Rica offering specialized trips differentiating you from the rest is important. Cross promoting with hotels and resorts, offering eco tours, and there are many things to see there at an all inclusive rate that is affordable is critical. I would look at the New York Times, L.A Times and other major news papers in the United States with a travel section. Offer their travel writers some of these trips as a "fam" in exchange for an editorial on your company and services. Set up a 1 800 number staffed 24 hours a day and have knowledgeable people staff it. I could go on but I will not bore you. Good luck
