i have never succeded in the workplace and I just don't think I am capable of learning. it has been several years so I think I would know by now. I have actually never had a full time job, but I have had worked part-time or freelance at basically full time hours (this in itself was an exploitation I couldn't get myself out of) Though part of me still "wants" a full time job, the smarter, more rational part of me realizes that a full time job would probably kill me. and I am better off this way. I just don't think I could survive in a workplace. Are there any alternatives? Should I try to just get married and be a housewife and scrub the kitchen floor? (sigh... =(

There are lots of people in your predicament, and you should be so lucky!!

Most people are of the average variety and will do whatever society ask, to them that is going to college and getting a degree in whatever then spending the remainder of their lives sitting in chair in the corporate world. If that were me I would sooner jump off a cliff.

It seems to me either of two things are happening in your case, first one is your lazy and will never amount to anything--this is my rational side. Or two, You need more than what the corporate world is offering- it doesn't scratch your itch.

Which one it is depends on you. You said you did some freelance work-- that tells me you were looking at an alternative to the usual, but didn't care for it for some reason. The truth is conformist or non-- at the end you still have to go to work.

corporate america is ruining the world ... just look at how Macdonalds (junk food) & Walmart (destroy competition & take over) work ...

maybe there are still a few decent, honourable companies out there ... what's Starbucks like for example?

get married by all means, but find a guy that doesn't treat you like a slave - nobody needs that!

maybe you need some really good careers advice - are there any good people (e.g. in colleges etc.) that could help?

maybe you have a special talent that you haven't realised yet - you could look at your "creative side" - try The Artist's Way as a way to access that hidden part of yourself

Are you in the United States? If so, just go to a psychiatrist and counselor and let them know about the voices you keep hearing. Don't tell them about the bad things they tell you to do... After all, you wouldn't want to be thrown in the "crazy house". Just let them know about the voices. Tell them all about how "Suzie" calls you names and says that you're worthless. Tell your psych. that you don't think you'll ever amount to anything and that you have no hope for a better future. Tell the psych. & counselor about the horrible childhood that you had, etc....

Then go to your nearest Social Security office and apply for disability. Should be pretty easy to get (although it'll take about six months to be approved). But you should be able to get it without any problem at all. Have you worked for a while? If so, you should be able to get an ok amount. If not, don't worry about it... Just apply for low income housing once you start receiving disability.
