I had one like a year ago, and now it's gone. What happened?

Absolutely. A lot of them gradually fade away as they age, although many never change at all. It's a natural thing

A true mole or nevus does not heal on its own. It necessarily would have to be removed surgically. If this "mole" of yours spontaneously disappeared, it was not a mole or nevus. The melanin pigment in the cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues that creates the nevus doesn't just dissolve away.

They can slowly come and go, but if it dissapeared that quickly, it was probably a freckle.
