I am desperate - have no time to sit down and watch the episodes - and I have no clue - not even remotely what it's about. I need to know lots about it for an important interview on friday! HELP! Can anyone bring me up to date on the series, what it's about, what has happened lately and why people watch it?

The show has been around for more than 30 years, off and on. That's a lot of catching up to do. You can try renting various episodes on DVD and have a marathon. Otherwise, try wikipedia.

First there is no way you can be an expert by friday. Too many episodes and too many doctors to remember not to mention everyone of his assistants. That is just the most basic of things. The series started many many years ago. It started on the BBC. Try their website to see what you can get. then goto scifi's website. You won't be an expert but you could know enough to get by. He's a time lord, travels in The Tardis, but you can find out everything you need to know by just typing the name in a search engine
