Why does James Bond sleep with a different woman in each movie? This has got me thinking. Was it the way Ian Fleming wrote the books or was this done just to make him "marketable?" If he had a steady girlfriend, would this make him more or less marketable?

Sorry but you could call me one of those old-fashioned prudes; that's one of the reasons why I don't watch Bond flicks.

He was betrayed by a trusted woman in the novel "Casino Royale" and from that point forward he has little respect for all women. He uses them as a means to an end. This pattern was interrupted in the novel "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" where he falls in love and marries Contessa "Tracy" Di Vicenzo. She is however killed at the end of the novel by Russian agents and Bond returns to his distrusting nature.

That is the way Ian Fleming wrote the character. An "attached" Bond most certainly not have the same appeal as the single Bond.

An argument also be made that by sleeping with these Bond Babes, as they are called, that he furthers his mission.
He tends to get all sorts of info and help when he does his work in the boudoir.

I think James Bond was suppose to appeal to a man's fantasy. Tough, cool guy that gets all the women, all around the world and never a boring moment, The average Joe will never experience anything like a James Bond type of life, but for a couple of hours in a theater, you can fantasize.

I think it's kind of story telling simplification. Give Bond a family and relatives it would definitely slow down the story since his home life would have to be integrated into the story. The story concept works best with a rather one dimensional hero!

Bond is a male fantasy. Sure they get a sexy hunk to make him look nice for the ladies but he is a male fantasy.
And the Bond in the books is different from the films. He is not as nice and suave and beds far fewer women.

Because 1/2 the women are evil, and the other 1/2 can't fly without a parachute, dodge falling buildings, and shun bullets as well as James.

Probably because he was in extreme danger a lot of the time and didn't know if he would survive, so took the opportunity whenever he got it. It's not so blatant in the books, and one time one of the James' had a wife.
