Next month, my husband and I are visiting family in Friendswood, near Houston. We want to experience some real Texas scenery and/or even just an authentic restuarant. Any ideas of where to go during our drive to San Antonio, or even while we're in San Antonio? Last time we went there, we were taken out to Ruth's Chris Steak house, a real disappointment since we were visiting a state we'd never been to.

The BEST places to eat are always the "Hole In The Wall" type restaurants. However, my husband's favorite in the SA area is Rudy's BBQ.

There's the canopy tours in Austin, along with 6th Street for music and fun.

Just the drive from Houston to SA is fun, if you take the backroads. Don't miss DiOrios market in Hempstead for fresh fruit/veggies and all kinds of "Texas" soup mixes, salsas, etc.

Breakfast at the Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenberg (sp?)Tx right along the I-10. I have loved it since I was 4 years old and still insist on stoping almost 40 years later every time we go west. They also make great beef jerky. Get the thick cut for the best flavor. For steak I'd go for Texas Land and Cattle. They are a "cowboy" steakhouse where as Ruth's Chris is more east coast style. In San Antonio for really good Mexican food go to Mi Tierra. You won't be disappointed.

Must tour the Alamo in
San Antonio. If you have time Sea World is there in san Antonio. you can detour a little and go to San Marcos there is an AWESOME outlet mall. Kate Spade Neimen Marcus, I think coach is there too.

I am not a big fan of Ruth Chris either i would much rather get a steak at Salt Grass.

Rosario's is good in San Antonio

Well, I live in Arkansas, but, Texas has always been my second home. I have lived there and have family there. You may find a Route to drive along the way. It may take a little longer, but, you can take in some of the things you never seen. Go towards Galveston Bay and hit a few food places around "Clear Lake Shores" everyone drives around on Golf Carts and it cool in itself. Coming into town from the Freeway there a Cool place, all-the shrimp you can eat. Right where you turn to go into Clear lake shores is a little Beer Garden stop in and have a Beer and Burgers. There Families go there with there children, real cool and very simple. Tell them Sam from that Big Canadian Boat sent you, if, it the same girls, they will know. ;-) Down on toward Kema some fun things to check out. When you hit the red light you go left and a good place on Right to eat. It right there at Kema Park. I not remember all the names, but, from Huston you take the Leg City exit.

San Antonio has lots of things to do. The alamo, Logan's Roadhouse is a great resturant, or Mamacitas for good Mexican food. There is crazy shopping, try stopping at The Shops at LaCantera!
