Hey,
I'll be taking a Veterinary Assistant class soon. Has anyone taken it, and can you tell me alittle about what you did? Did they actually bring animals in the class?

I took one last year. It was the first year any class like that was done in that college so we were the guinea pig class.

The class was only a year long and there was so much my teacher had to cram in that short amount of time. Our teacher had pets of her own that we examined and practiced on. We also brought our own pets in.

We learned about diseases, the basic layout of an animal's body, injections, blood tests, urine tests, stool samples, identifying parasites, bandaging, claw-clipping, tools, sanitizing, reading and writing clinic shorthand, restraint, clicker training in dogs, and basic first aid.

Don't bother with "vet assistant classes". You can get a job at a vet doing the same thing without having to take a class.
You learn how to clean kennels, restrain animals, take a temp...simple things like that. No need for a class.

This is NOT the SAME as being a VET TECH!! For that you go to COLLEGE...real COLLEGE!!!!!! Not take a class. You need a DEGREE to be a VET TECH!
