Dear Siva!
My name is Nagarajan, resident of Dubai.

I am also an Indian (age 45) ex-smoker, wish to give you a good story. At the end of the story, you can ask your friends if they would like to continue smoking.

I was an engineering student in 1978 just had a puff of a cigarette from my room mate.

It was terrible, the next day morning one more cigarette said good morning to me.

From that day one cigar ( let me call him shortly) has become an inevitable friend accompanying me in the toilet.

After 6 months, i could observe that i can not pass a **** without a cigar.

From that time onwards, cigar was with me for nearly 24 years as a best companian, sharing my feelings 10 times a day.

I moved to Kuwait in 1993. Kuwait is such a blessed country where smoking is an arabic tradition. I am more encouraged by the tradition and i never wanted to disrespect a tradition.

My friend shared his feelings with me 40 times a day. I literally mean 40 cigarettes a day, which is two packs in Kuwait standards.

Lovely, no problems with smoking. Whole country is smoking cigarettes. Best cigars of the world at no taxes. I enjoyed it.

On 3rd March 2003, midnight at 00.30 Hrs, after taking my supper and went in sleep for 2 hours, I suddenly woke up.

I found myself choked with sweat. I was having a pain at the center of my chest (not on the beating heart), which I never had in my life. The level of pain was untolerable. I woked up my wife Geetha and told her I am having an unbearable pain in the chest.

She immediately suspected it could be an heart attack. She raised her question so! But I told her that A HEART ATTACK PAIN WILL START FROM THE HEART AND NOT ON THE CHEST. I vomited twice and passed lose motion once. I thought this would be a simple gastric trouble. I took i bottle (2 liters of Coca cola) to release gas, if at all the pain is due to chest burning.

I could not relate the pain to an heart attack. I though i would never get an heart attack at the age of 43.

Geetha insisted to go to near by hospital. I refused to her saying that it is a gastero entities. I was trying hard to pass my time till early morning.

I was having a severe chest pain, which was not relieved even after 6 hours.

At 6 30 AM I drove my Mitshubishi Galant to a nearby hospital. The doctor took an ECG. He shouted that my pulse was going down to 23 per minute. He immediately called the ambulance and they literally threw me inside, with a high voltage shocking device.

I could lastly see was a shocking iron kept on my chest and my entire body was thrown up and down.

The next opportunity I was able to see the world was AFTER 45 DAYS UNDERGOING A NON-GAINABLE COMA!!!!

The doctors in the hospital have broght me miraculouly after injecting heparin regularly. I lost the chances of thrombolosis, which will prevent re-attacks.

I was later found to have multiple vessel blocks (4 blocks with 100% each).

I rushed to MIOT in chennai by special Air for a possible bypass surgery with Dr. Bashi.

I was lucky to have the operation done with Dr. Bashi, a divinely hand who performed 50000 operations with no failure. He is my demi-god.

After all set I asked Dr. Bashi, " What was the reason for my heart attack?"

He said" SMOKING" Even if you had smoked one cigarette in your life, you are susceptible for a lung cancer.

So What??? I smoked, I got my Heart attack! Got repaired!!

So What is the problem?

The punishment comes only now!

I can not eat food which is rich with cholestrol, such as pizza, coconut, fied substances, curd etc..

I can not eat sweet, because the sugar is converted to fatty acids and eventually to saturated fats.

I can not take ice cream

I can not take rice as it raises my triglyceride levels

I can not have a coffee or tea with milk and sugar.

I can not have Chutney...I can not have roasted curry!

No chicken no mutton...No Eggs...

The irony is, I am the CEO of group of companies...I have everything and I have nothing!

Thanks to the Cigarettes!

Thanks to smoking!

Anyone would like to join me????????????????????????

No, smoking is never good. Always remember that. And your friends are big fools who think puffing out smoke makes them look cool. Actually they are killing themselves as well as those around them. So no matter what you feel or what they say, NEVER EVER try doing that. You will be grateful to yourself for the rest of your life.

Smoking is definitely NOT good for health. But the age you are at and your friends must be, it is even more dangerous.

You better discuss with them and if they are really your friends they must listen to you. Fortunately, there is lot of literature and media campaign against this evil and you efforts shall get a lot of support in this regard.

If this does not serve the purpose, do not hesitate to discuss with their parents/guardians.

Its not up to you, thats something they want to do!!!!!! You dont have to follow them, you can still be there friends but you dont have to smoke like them...l But if you feel that it is bad for them tell them, but not in a demanding way. Do not get in to the habit of smoking. It is the worst habit out of all socially considered bad habits. It kills your appetite. It tars your lungs and disables its ability to absorb oxygen the life-sustainer we all need to survive and feel good. It undermines the efficiency of nervous system and makes you a slave of this habit.Have not observed smokers frantically searching for cigarettes and lighter the moment he has slight tension or problem on his hands. To sum up it is the most obnoxious habit. You not only seriously harm yourself you harm all those who are around you. I am writing to you with practical experience after having given up this dreadful habit.
