1992 Lexus LS400, bought for $6000 3 months ago. Somewhat releable, very expensive maintenance.
1997 Chevy Suburban, paid $7995 1 month ago. Very reliable and safe but very large and kind of a gas hog.
Out of the two, I love the Suburban!!

Well, knowing a lot about how cars work, it is tough to say that a car worth 7000 is safe. My parents have a 2004 Mercedes Benz E500 4matic and a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder LE Platinum, so I have little experience with $7000 cars. I would say either get a new Hyundai Accent, or get a used car, not too old, but with a decent brand name, like nissan, honda, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Audi, and others. And the car you get should be bought from a dealer. When you buy it from an owner, you may not know how he/she treated the car. Also, the safest cars are Mercedes-Benzes, Nissans, hondas, some fords. Most of the reliable, safe ones are foreign. Did you hear that the top13 safest cars list was ddominated by foreign auto makers?

I drive a beautiful 2003, 4 door Honda Civic LX - I imagine that it would cost between $7,000-10,000, but it's well worth it. I have about 50,000 miles on it, and have never had a problem. We also took my civic on two road trips - she has amazing gas milage and you can't beat the reliability of a Honda.
I'm a Honda lover, but for your sister I would recommend either a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla - year 2001-present. A lot of it also depends on what her lifestyle is like (ie - you don't want to by a Hummer if your commute to work is 100 miles!) But, you might not want to buy a coupe if you live in the moutains!!
I have found though, that the civic is suprisingly good in the snow. I drove her through the Blue Ridge mountains when it was snowing, and she was fine. I've never been in an accident (knock on wood), but as far as I know Hondas are always very safe and score at the top of crash tests.
Tell your sister good luck!!!

First off, I have NEVER heard of an outie tt! I have heard of AUDI TT.
Secondly, I drive a Subaru Impreza WRX. They are very safe cars and have reinforced B pillars for rollover and impact collision protection.
Nissans are great cars and you definately get your money's worth. When I was working at a NIssan dealership, I read an article about a family who was on vacation in Colorado. They had the mom, dad, and four or five kids in their Armada (the hugest SUV of Nissan). They picked up some stranded kids on the mountain that worked at the resort. I think a total of three kids. So there was mom, dad, four kids (I think) and three teenagers/adults in the Armada. Well, they got caught in an avalanche and the Armada fell to the bottom of the mountain in the avalanche. NOBODY got hurt. The SUV was a total loss (to be expected), but nobody even had a scrape on them. They got their insurance check and went and bought another Armada.
I also sold an Armada to a lady who was in her friend's Armada, got tboned by another SUV, and nobody was hurt at all. Her friend bought another Armada and the lady traded her car in for one.
Nissans are safe. Very safe. I love my Subaru though. My All-wheel drive is great in the winter, and I take care of my car, so she takes care of me!

I drive a little Chevy S-10 pickup. I inherited it from my dad.
I don't know what the safety ratings on it are. My dad's mind was real bad and he got in a few fender benders. You know those big arms that come down for railroads when a train is coming, my dad was sitting under one of those and got the whole front windshield knocked out. Soon after that I got the truck.
