I think in an office setting you have to be professional and act in a polite manner. This doesn't mean you have to act like a door mat, but be cordial, say hello and exchange basic pleasantries (i.e., the weather, Thanksgiving, etc.). By keeping your interaction limited to superficial things, you will be less likely to argue with this person in the future.

yes you say hello and wish because you have gone past that time when you answered back. No point in clinging to what has happened earlier. Move on

Yes, being around people so much it happens. It's like your family, you have fights and then get over it. Unless your being harrassed, then it's a different story.

Oh LORD! You're back-talking at work?? Shame on you!

Um...you're an adult so why shouldn't you "back-talk"/defend yourself, just as long as it is professional, on the job?

I hate when people condescend to me or act as if I'm dumb...that's offensive in itself!

Yes, I don't hold grudges. It's childish, and counter-productive. You all should work as one team. It's not good to keep enemies, but keep your enemies close to you, and keep at least one eye on them at all times.

Sure, mostly because either I know my happy greeting will irritate them, or because whatever verbal exchange we had simply doesnt matter to me.
